Who Are We?

We believe that student success is fueled by student health and happiness. This starts with having consistent access to nutritious food.

The CalFresh Outreach Program is funded through the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and is implemented in partnership with county social services offices. We are a team of Chico State students and professional staff who are dedicated to supporting students through the entire CalFresh application process. We assist with the application itself, obtaining verification documents, and support you in completing it all in the 30-day application window. We also help you with the renewal process 6 months after you have applied. From CalFresh eligibility to maintaining CalFresh benefits, our passionate team of students and professional staff individually support each student through their entire CalFresh journey.

What is CalFresh?

Formerly known as ‘food stamps’ CalFresh is California’s version of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

CalFresh dollars help stretch a tight food budget and help many people afford to incorporate healthy foods like fruits and vegetables into their diets. CalFresh is the name of the USDA-funded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the state of California. Recipients receive and “spend” CalFresh benefits electronically, via personal Golden State Advantage electronic benefits transfer (EBT) cards that look just like any other credit or debit cards.

Other words you may hear that are associated with CalFresh are ‘food stamps’ or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) but in California we keep it fresh—CalFresh! Whatever you call it, it is a smart move to get extra money for food so you can eat healthier and use your money wisely!
